Rutherford, known as "the borogh of trees" is centrally located 8 miles west of New York City. It is 12 miles from Newark International Airport, 2 miles from the NJ Turnpike and 4 miles from the Garden State Parkway. Conveniently located on the New Jersey Transit Bergen line, NJT's Secaucus Transfer Station links the Bergen County train lines with the Amtrak east cost Boston-Washington line. This will provide Rutherford commuters with direct train access to mid-town Manhattan. This improvement is projected to double Rutherford's train station traffic and cuts 8 to 15 minutes off the commute to New York City, each way! There will be increased frequency of rail service and reverse commute trains. In other towns where New Jersey Transit made similar improvements, property values have rapidly increased. Located right in the center of the downtown is the Williams Center for the Arts. The Williams Center contains three first run movie theaters and a 700 seat concert hall. Programming includes children's theatre as well as a wide variety of performing arts. A free minibus operates weekdays to bring residents from throughout the borough, into the downtown. The Rutherford Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1927 as a non-profit organization for the purpose of promoting commercial, agricultural, retail, industrial and civic activities for the economic and community development of the Rutherford Community. They promotes civic efforts that improve community life and foster good business practices, expresses sound opinions on questions relating to community welfare, unifies the business community and channels its energies to constructive programs. New luxury apartments, retail stores and enclosed parking across the street from transportation to NYC or other areas of new jersey was recently constructed. |
